The Bookshelf: Mama Panya's Pancakes

What is the story about?
The story has two main characters; Adika and Mama Panya. The mother and son goes to the market to buy ingredients for the pancake. However, as they travel towards the market. Adika invites guests to have pancakes too. Mama Panya gets worried as she has barely enough money to feed her son.

This African story about the rewards of sharing offers a message that is universal. It is supplemented by a helpful man, notes about Kenya and its people, and even an easy-to-make pancake recipe (direct quote from the remarks of the book).

Where I bought the book?
Newton, Massachusetts

How much does it cost?
I cannot recall :( However, I believe it cost less than 10USD.

What I like about the book?
I enjoy reading this story. It reminds me of the complications adults have and the simplicity that children sustain. I also like that it is a story about Kenya. The illustrations are clear to me. It defines the setting and context of the story. It aids the reader's visualisation. Reading such a book to children in Singapore would help widen their cultural and global knowledge. One very important message to bring across to children in Singapore is global perspective; that there are people out there who are not as well off or are struggling to survive. Yet, they maintain to uphold good moral values.
